Cara W. Brown - Supervisor

Cara Brown Portrait

Hello! I’m Cara. I’ve been advising for about 20 years in the College of Nursing. I have my Master of Science degree in Academic Advising from Kansas State University and a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a Minor in Spanish from Brigham Young University. Something unique about me is that I’m the only redhead in my family. So, during my mission to Honduras, I stood out like a sore thumb! My stepsons and my husband are all military. In my free time I love working with veterans through Utah Honor Flight and doing almost anything outdoors. My favorite hobbies are traveling, hiking, scuba diving, shooting, kayaking and decorating my house or office – I love color! I’m also a huge fan of movies and you’ll often find me quoting movies 😊. I wear many hats in the College of Nursing, and I stay pretty busy! I love working with and getting to know our wonderful students through advisement and our student clubs. I hope to get to know you soon too!

A Utah native, I spent most of my life in Manti after being born in West Jordan. My love for music led me to begin my education at Salt Lake Community College, where I earned an associate degree in music. I later moved to Provo to pursue further studies at Brigham Young University, graduating with a Bachelor's degree of Science in Family Life with an emphasis in Human Development. Passionate about education and student success, I spent the past three years guiding students as an academic advisor at Payson High School, the University of Utah, and now here at BYU. Committed to lifelong learning, I strive to empower others through knowledge and personal development by giving guidance in their academic journeys.

I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada. I attended BYU for my undergraduate degree and graduated with a BS in Human Development. I am currently furthering my studies at Boise State University to get a Master of Social Work. My personal research and career interests are in women's mental health, yet more specifically postpartum mental health. A few other interests and hobbies of mine are running, hiking, needlepoint embroidery, and interior design.
